Notes on the Design or Physical Value -and-a-half storey Flemish-bond brick structure with two crossgabled side wings and two small stilted gabled dormers. The bricks were made on the premises of clay and straw. The roof has wide eaves. The entrance door is set in a semicircular brick vestibule with windows on each side and a pyramidal roof. The windows have flat heads, radiating brick voussoirs and dressed stone sills. The interior retains many original features: 2.5"-

Notes on History of the Property -do, cultured, musical, and deeply involved in the Anglican Church. Two daughters were married at Christ's Church, Hamilton, in September 1848: Catherine, the second daughter, to the Rev. Thomas Marsh, Curate of Christ's Church, and Marrianne Lee to James Coffin Geddes of the Bank of North America in Hamilton. The Wyatts solicited funds from friends and relatives to build an Anglican church in East Flamborough and in 1861 donated a pice of their property as its site. St Matthews Church was opened on 22 September 1861. The Wyatt family left for Eng;land in October 1869, but returned early in 1871, a few months before the death of Henry Wyatt.

In 1871 the property passed to George Wyatt and then to John Read. In 1875 the property of J. F. Read (Wentworth Atlas): house & church shown. In 1903 the property of John F. Read (57 acres) (Imperial Atlas): house & church shown. The house is illustrated in The Garden of Canada (1902), p. 79, as '"Herberton House", residence of Reid Bros., Aldershot'
