Historical
Notes on History of the Property -acre tract conveyed from the Crown in 1802 to Augustus Jones.

David Blain, born in 1820 in Wentworth County, was the fourth-born of six sons and two daughters of Daniel and Elizabeth Blain, who had immigrated from New Jersey before 1812 and who purchased BF and Con 1 Lot 12 in 1830. The Blains were among the first settlers in East Flamboro. In the 1851/52 Agricultural Census, Jacob Blain was listed as owner of 233 acres, BF & Con 1, Lot 12.

In 1843 David Blain married Dorothy Elinor Smoke, daughter of Peter and Sarah (Kirkendall) Smoke, and in 1846 they purchased one acre of Lot 10, Con 1, from Rev. James Brennan. The minister took back a mortgage for £100, "the entire price of the property".

"Blains Inn", described as "being on the road near the Roman Catholic Cemetery", was one of eight inns on the less-than-five-mile stretch of of the Waterdown Road, between the Valley Inn and Roderick's Hotel in Waterdown.

The house was built in 1852 on the site of an old hotel which had burned down, by the David Blain family who owned the hotel. '
